Quarterly wrap: 31/12/23

It’s now more than a year since our trip finished up and we DIDN’T get on stage at Keith Urban (we’re totally over it, kind of), but in keeping with our routine of quarterly wraps this year, here’s update number four.

We saw each other once this quarter, meeting up in Brissy in October where we were fortunate to be named as national honourees in the JCI Australia 2023 Ten Outstanding Young Persons program. While we did dress to the nines for the event, part of the glamour process involved clumsily painting each other’s nails on a bench in Queen Street Mall an hour before the gala dinner started. The result may have looked like a prep student trying and failing to colour between the lines, but hey, we felt pretty.

Kate finished up her work for CQU in November, and proceeded to start the Teaching For Australia program shortly after, which led her to a two-week stint at Baccus Marsh before she starts up full time in Cunderdin in 2024. From the outer, it looks as if Kate has misinterpreted the name of the program – her encouraging/forcing of other student teachers into learning line dancing would have one believe she’s running the Teaching Line Dancing For Australia program instead.

Bootscooting also got a run at Claire’s brother Richard’s wedding this month, which really should come as no surprise seeing as Linda (Claire’s new sister-in-law) has the nickname of Linda Line Dancer. We promise line dancing is not a pre-requisite for becoming part of the Harris family, although enthusiasm around the topic will always be viewed favourably. Claire also had the delight of teaching line dancing a week ago on Christmas Eve, teaching a dance to ‘I Want A Massey Ferguson For Christmas’ to Alex’s family. 7yo Owen and 4yo Eliza are future line dance stars in the making!

Our highlight of this quarter? Spotify Wrapped not being dominated by the Nutbush.

Here’s to a happy, healthy 2024 to each and every one of you. With Kate moving to WA and Claire planning a few trips to the west, there just might be a big line dance event coming for the West Aussies… watch this space!

Yours in bootscooting,

Kate and Claire.

One year ago today, the pair of us were camping in a picturesque but incredibly windy Broome, in weather described in Claire’s diary as ‘cyclonic/psychotic’ … yes, she is well aware it was neither. Fa
